*featured image: In mid-spring, wood anemone (Anemone nemorosa, sl. podlesna vetrnica) covers the entire forest floor like a white mat in many areas of Slovenia. At the same time in Montenegro, its relative, blue anemone (Anemone apennina, sl. apeninska vetrnica) coats the deciduous forests with its blue-violet hue. Its native range spans from Corsica to Bulgaria; we encountered the flowers pictured above near Vrbanj, a small village in western part of Orjen mountains.
