*featured image: Dark-red helleborine (Epipactis helleborine, sl. temnordeča močvirnica) is a delicate plant. I’ve encountered a solitary specimen of this orchid species on the ridge of Mt. Čaven (the peak above Krnica), in its characteristic habitat, i.e., black pine forest on carbonate ground. It is spread throughout Slovenia, except for the Sub-Pannonic region. On its sites, it usually forms small populations. It flowers in the (early) summer; its flowers smell of vanilla. They are most often pollinated by bees.
